Preparing for Mothers Day 🌸🌸🌸

Finding joy in the simplest things is often what keeps us farmers going, and sharing that joy is something that we strive to do at Roots through the organic food and flowers we produce for you.

Mothering Sunday 10th March 2024

This weekend is Mothering Sunday, always the fourth Sunday of Lent, three weeks before Easter Sunday. Steeped in history and tradition, today it is a lovely occasion, a day of celebration of motherhood in all its shapes and forms.

We keep it simple at Roots and offer Spring flowers, some gathered on our own farm, others from trusted British growers with whom we are connected, in this way we can offer sustainable luxury for all budgets. Bunches of Spring daffodils, bouquets of tulips, hellebores and narcissus, larger bouquets are available to pre-order through our online shop here, smaller wraps can be purchased at Roots on Friday and Saturday or from our Cheltenham Farmers Market stall on Friday 8th March. Do pop along and see what we have to offer.

Reading List Recommendation

‘Food for Life’ written by Tim Spector, published by Jonathan Cape

This is the latest publication from Tim Spector, of which excerpts were played on Radio 4’s ‘Book of the Week’ programme a few weeks ago and are still available on BBC iplayer, if you want a taste of the contents before picking up a copy.

Will and I were shrieking hurrahs at the radio as snippets from the book validated our 20 year old Roots ethos over and over. It’s quite a read with a phenomenal list of references as it journeys through gut microbiology, agriculture, the monster that is industrial food processing and the stranglehold just a few supermarkets have over an increasingly unhealthy population. However, there are very digestible summaries of what’s important and what we can all do to improve our health through food. Pop over to our website to find out more.

Easter planning

An early Easter this year, for us a favourite time to gather with family for feasting and getting outside with the days stretching out ahead of us into the growing season. Our ever-popular roasts, organic chicken, organic beef and organic lamb will all be available, although if you have something particular in mind (our organic lamb is always an Easter favourite) it is certainly worth ordering in advance. Here you can book through our shop online for collection from Roots or Cheltenham Farmers Market on Good Friday or Roots on Easter Saturday.

What’s coming up …

Watch this space for news of a late Spring farm walk when we will explore the livestock and crops around our home farm as we prepare for another busy growing season. Lambs at foot, bursting hedgerows and a talk about vegetable growing and flowers for a cutting garden are all to be included! If you are interested to know more, drop us a line here and we’ll see what we can include.

And of course, we are planning another year full of flowers; PYO fans will be welcomed back in early July, wedding planning is in full swing for Meg’s fabulously floriferous installations.

And lastly …

As the growing season takes off, we’re looking forward to another busy year of providing fabulous fresh, organic food and flowers for our customers to enjoy, thank you, as always, for your continued support.

With best wishes
Will & Meg
